Link to setting up edison. In the page given below you will see two options. Select Arduino Expansion board setup https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/library/edison-getting-started NOTE 1: Intel Edison does NOT support the latest Ubuntu 15.10. You must download Ubuntu 15.04 or 14.04! NOTE 2: If using Mac OS X & the VirtualBox, after connecting the Intel Edison to USB, in VirtualBox, go to the top and click on "Devices," then "USB," and then click on "Intel Edison" so that the virtual machine will recognize the USB-connected devices.
Additional Notes & Troubleshooting (Virtualbox Users): a. When setting up the Edison, the following list of commands (run from Virtual Box terminal) should help resolve all dependency issues: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install fping gdebi p7zip-full screen git python-pip oracle-java8-installer oracle-java8-set-default b. In case of issues with connecting to the Edison over the Serial terminal on your Ubuntu environment, run the following on your Ubuntu system: ls /dev/ttyUSB* If no devices are listed follow instructions below. -> Enable the relevant device(s) under the devices tab: (BOTH: Intel Edison & the USB UART interface must be selected in VirtualBox, although only the Edison has been highlighted) -> If facing difficulties still, shutdown your Virtual Machine and try the following. If you are unable to add USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 devices, please ensure you have the correct VirtualBox Extension Pack installed (check your version of VirtualBox by selecting the Help >>About VirtualBox option in your VirtualBox Manager). -> If no device is listed, do check your cable connections. Ensure your USB connector is connected to the MIDDLE USB (J16) connector on your Edison. -> Test connectivity on your host OS: Windows host, Linux host or a Mac host. If system works on host but not on target system: -> Try restarting the Ubuntu system. -> Try restarting the Edison system if this fails. As a last resort, reinstall the firmware.
